A common symptom of congestive heart failure is pulmonary edema, traditionally diagnosed through costly methods like X-rays and CT scans or through chest auscultation in early-stage diagnoses. Leveraging on the increasing numbers of smartphone users coupled with a growing engagement in digitalised healthcare services, this project explores the potential for a convenient and inexpensive method to provide an early-stage diagnosis for pulmonary edema. This is done through the development of an Android application which condenses the pulmonary edema detection process into a mobile phone. A backend server is developed to receive and process audio recordings sent from the mobile application via Application Programming Interface (API). The diagnosis results returned to the user will be generated through an algorithm. Beyond this, the application also features fundamental functions for user confidentiality (i.e., registration and login) and covers elements for personalisation. It also functions as a health tracker to allow regular monitoring of one’s health as a cost- and time-efficient solution.
