Description
Summary:This project aims to gain more insight and understanding of occupancy estimation and tracking in an indoor environment through the use of a computationally light algorithm so that it can be implemented in smart phones. The objective of using computationally light algorithms is to allow for implementation in smart phones as the majority of the population own a smart phone. This is achieved by assessing wireless communication protocols and utilizing the most appropriate protocol based on the objectives of the project and on its compatibility with an Apple iPhone. Some of the wireless communication protocols that are present in Apple iPhones are Classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, Ultra- Wideband (UWB) and Global Positioning System (GPS). This project utilizes BLE and Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) to achieve indoor localization on mobile phones, specifically the Apple iPhone X (10).
