Description
Summary:In this ever-changing world, information can be easily transferred from one place to another through technology. Our current technology allows us to communicate with our friends, make our online purchases, or even have our savings kept in an online bank account. According to a recent study by Statista, 4.65 million or 90% of Singapore’s population owns a smartphone. This would mean that an enormous group of people would be susceptible to security attacks. In this paper, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) which is a method of cryptography using quantum mechanical properties would be discussed. A communication protocol namely Continuous Variable-Quantum Key Distribution (CV-QKD) and its basic working principle will be explained. CV-QKD will be prepared in the laboratory for a demonstration. To realize this setup, an electronic control circuit will be required to support the project. Controls such as pulse modulation and feedback for the polarization controller will be developed using LabVIEW. LabVIEW is an Application Development Environment (ADE) which makes use of visual programming to develop codes or system that can be used for industrial systems. In this report, the design and approach to developing the system will be explained. Testing of the functionality of the hardware used and the outcome of these results will be displayed and analyzed.
