Summary: | The main focus of this Final Year Project (FYP) pertains to optimising a particular switching voltage converter – the 3V to 1V Switched Capacitor (SC) DC-DC voltage converter, which utilises a 3:1 ladder configuration. This FYP begins by looking into the motivations and objectives for this project. Also, the theory of the main characteristics of DC-DC converters and the main types of DC-DC converters in the market today is studied. Various theories – the working mechanisms of the SC DC-DC voltage converter, non-overlapping clock (NOC), biasing circuit and comparator is discussed in detail. One method of closing the loop by integrating the above-mentioned circuits together into a system, ensuring that the SC DC-DC converter will be able to auto-regulate its voltage output is recommended. A popular computer-aid simulation software known as Cadence is used to verify and test every single circuit used in the recommendation according to the theory to ensure correct functionality. After discussing the results of individual circuits, verification of the overall closed-loop system integration and its feasibility are discussed in detail before recommending any future work and concluding the whole report. |
