Summary:“Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet” - shipping has always been the heart of economic growth and is an essential contribution for sustainable development. One of the prominent challenge faced in the industry is the presence of invasive species on ship’s hull. Although there were several methods implemented for managing ship’s biofouling, it persist until today. The present report aims to explore how proactive hull cleaning robotics (proactive solutions) can aid in alleviating the biofouling issue and contribute to shipping sustainability, by taking into account the economic, environmental and social aspects. The paper will first examine the common hull cleaning operations that is used presently, followed by providing an introductory on the proactive hull cleaning robotics. Following, relevant methodology and sustainability assessment will be utilised to provide a substantial analysis. Challenges that are identified will be analysed and recommendations will be provided to mitigate it to achieve shipping sustainability. Future research on proactive hull cleaning robotics is needed to examine the effectiveness and how it contributes to shipping sustainability constructively.
