Using such materials avoids the problem of stress concentrating which are usually resulted from the discontinuity in traditional composite materials. With the continual improvement in gradient material, the strengths of the traditional materials are kept where else the weakness are being overcome. In this study, the investigation on the stresses in a soft functionally gradient sphere exposed to pressure loading is being carried out. The material property of FGMs is assumed to be in exponential function form and obeys the power law. The problem is solved by simplifying it to solve an ordinary differential equation numerically with given values of the gradient constant, material properties and the thickness of the sphere. Stress distributions along the radial direction and transverse direction will also be studied. The obtained result shows that the property of FGMs has a significant influence to the stress distribution along the radial direction.
