Description
Summary:Singapore is the most expensive country in which to own a vehicle. Fortunately, the public transport system is also ranked as one of the best globally. In Year 2016, about 67 percent of Singaporeans commute using public transport, and a percentage of them cycle to MRT stations, from where they would take the MRT to commute to work. However, bicycle parking has become a cause for worry. Outdoor bicycle parking, aside from risk of theft and vandalism, also exposes bicycles to the elements which may cause their physical condition to deteriorate. Another limitation of the use of bicycles is that only foldable bicycles that meet the size limitations may be brought onboard MRTs and buses. This means that commuters, aside from those whose bicycles fit the criteria, will have to park their bicycle before taking public transport and continue their journey thereafter without their bicycle. It is currently not possible for them to continue their journey thereafter using the same bicycle. This project aims to design an automated bicycle parking system which meets the needs of cyclist commuters and protects their bicycles from the elements. The design will also include a transport system so that bicycles can be delivered to their desired MRT station, so that they may continue their journey from there using the same bicycle.
