The objective of this research is to construct a framework that identifies and ranks existing and upcoming relevant knowledge domains and their sub-domains for maritime shipping professionals. From reviewing the literature, five domains and 23 sub-knowledge domains were developed. The five knowledge domains include (1) digitalization, (2) maritime business, (3) sustainability management, (4) personnel development, and (5) supply chain management knowledge. Subsequently, surveys were conducted on shipping company managers in Singapore and their responses were analyzed using the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process methodology. The results revealed that digitalization knowledge was the most important, followed by maritime business, personnel development, sustainability management, and supply chain management knowledge. For the sub-domains, the most important ones were artificial intelligence and big data, commercial knowledge, and the internet of things, and cloud computing. Overall, this research has updated the knowledge and competency framework for shore-based maritime shipping professionals and informed education policies to develop a competent maritime transport workforce by facilitating benchmarking and curriculum planning among maritime education institutions.
