Description
Summary:Inconel 718 alloy is used widely in the aerospace industry. Currently, there are different additive manufacturing for metallic parts available. For this project, Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is used to produce parts. Two different laser parameters are used to fabricate the part to study the difference in mechanical properties and microstructure. Heat treatment with different solution treatment temperatures (960°C and 1100°C) are used to study the difference between As printed and heat treated. Results have shown that mechanical properties like hardness, yield strength, and ultimate tensile strength have significant improvement after heat treatment. Residual stress calculation on SLM printed was also study in this experiment. Therefore, the heat treatment process after fabrication on parts is crucial in attaining better mechanical properties and stress relief for usage in real-life applications.
