description |
Smart electronic applications - A body temperature taking and recording system is
designed for taking a person’s body temperature and recording this person’s
identification together with his/her temperature reading in a database. As the
information is stored in a cloud server, it can be retrieved anytime and anywhere as
long as there is an internet available. The information to be retrieved from the
database can be selective based on a set of chosen criteria.
It is aimed at to be used in a hospital to automate the process of having nurses taking
patients’ temperature by letting patients do the self-help temperature taking. The
hardware core uses an open-source Arduino Leonardo board which has multiple
interfaces with a RFID reader, an I2C LCD display, an IR thermal sensor and a Wi-Fi
module. RFID tag is used for identifying a patient’s identity. As the ID codes of a tag,
which are formed by 10-byte ASCII codes, are impractical for identification, they are
converted into patient’s bed location. A non-contact IR thermal sensor is used for
body temperature measurement. The technologies involved include Wi-Fi network
communications, microcontroller C programming, PHP and HTML5 scripting
languages, and database programming. With the help of an abundant of open-source
libraries, the development time-to-completion is much shortened. |
