Among all the different types of fits used for mechanical joints, interference fit is quite unique in the sense that no additional components or parts are needed (as in bolted/rivetted joints) to hold the two given parts (shaft and bush) together. They are even used in important aircraft assemblies. There are many publications in the literature that study the stress distribution due to interference fit. Most of these studies do not consider geometrical error, such as ovality. This project considers ovality of the shaft in a shaft-bush assembly. For this study, ANSYS software is used to carry out finite element analysis on a typical shaft-bush assembly. A previous project has carried out ovality with medium sized mesh and has also validated theoretical results with ANSYS simulation results. This project extends by using greater variation of ovality, as well as interference fit. The results show that ovality does have significant effect on stresses on the bush, which is much more significant than the effect of interference fit.
