Summary: | This report aims to discuss the characteristics of 4D printed magnetic materials and the techniques used to characterize their physical material properties. The materials that this report will focus on are Silicone resin (EcoFlex 00-10), Magnetite (Fe3O4), Neodymium, and Strontium Ferrite (SrFe12O19). Preparation of the various test included the procurement of the 3D printed molds and various tensile bars. During the characterization, tensile testing was done where the Shimadzu AG-X Tensile Test machine was utilized to determine the Yield strength and Young’s Modulus. Hardness test was done with a Shore A durometer and a novel method was developed to determine the breakaway force of the magnetic materials. Data collected will allow the comparison of each material and its optimal composition. This report will also discuss the challenges faced when producing indirect 4D printed objects and how to overcome the various problems or improve the situation. |
