Summary: | Over the years, the use of compressors for refrigeration has increased rapidly. As the world shifts toward a greener outlook, the need for a greener compressor arises. This led to the development of a brand-new rotary compressor called the Coupled Vane Compressor (CVC). The CVC features a more compact design with a rotor to cylinder diameter ratio of possibly 0.30 as compared to the usual conventional 0.75 seen in almost all other existing rotary compressors. This achieves multiple objectives which is to be able to decrease materials usage, cost and yet increase volumetric capacity at the same time. Mathematical models have been utilized to study the performance of this CVC, but many other alternatives of the design of the CVC have yet to be explored. It is discovered that at the standard semicircular shape of the vane, exists a low level of efficacy of the vane. Hence, to increase the efficiency of the CVC, a new shape of vane tip has been introduced. With this vane tip shape, calculations will be conducted to determine the equation of motions regarding this new vane. Furthermore, the equations derived from the calculations will be input into the ANSYS system for evaluation of the new vane tip shape . It will also determine the change in compressor’s performance regarding the new vane tip shape. |
