Summary: | Implicit methods of assessing Situational Awareness (SA) are gaining in popularity due to their unobstructive and objective nature. For this study, Brain-Eye measures were used in the evaluation of Air Traffic Controller's monitoring behaviour and task engagement. In particular, the Brain-Eye measures were used to distinguish between attentive monitoring, staring blankly and monitoring with distractions by identifying characteristic signals. Furthermore, the Brain-Eye measures were then compared with the performance of certain tasks to examine relationships between the parameters and SA. Based on the findings, attentive monitoring generally recorded higher values for multiple Brain-Eye parameters, while fixation duration and power spectral density (PSD) were good indicators of performance in task engagement. |
