I dedicate this project to helping children and families sharing the same plighttoday and in the future. In my encounter, I recall myself not fully understanding the concept and reason for the incarceration, which led to me having recurring negative thoughts and moods. I wonder if there is a relationship between children’s well-being and outcomes and their degree of understanding towards their parent’s incarceration and if there is, to what extent? Hence, I would like to take the opportunity in this research project to explore just that. The project aims to, thereafter, find out how design as a medium can best ease and support the process of understandingfor young children in a light-hearted, fun and interactive manner. Secondarily, the research and subsequent design deliverable hopeto assist caregivers who typically hold responsibility in informing the children about the incarcerationby looking into the caregivers’possible doubts and concerns. This is upon finding out through research and interviewsthe tendency of caregivers to hide or distort information and/or partake in secrecy with regards to incarcerationtowards children. Ultimately, the project’soverall objective is to minimise the potential adverseeffects ofparental incarceration on children.
