Summary:This research paper examines the use of case-based teaching in three undergraduate business modules in two countries: Strategic Management modules in both a leading Southeast Asian and a leading European business school, and a Special Projects module in a leading Asian business school. Based on surveys of local and international students, this paper finds that the optimal approach to using cases to teach such modules would incorporate a competition-style design, a culturally diverse class of students, a student-led approach to learning during class sessions (giving students free rein to tackle each case), and lectures to equip students with theories and frameworks. The concluding section offers guidelines to aid the design of case-based modules and identifies the relative advantages each case-based teaching method has in imparting various skills and attributes to students.
