Description
Summary:Nickel-iron (Ni-Fe) based alloys are commonly used for the application in soft magnetic materials displaying low coercivity (Hc) and high saturation magnetization (Ms). Magnetic nanoparticles have seen great potential in the electronics, magnetic data storage and biomedicine fields. Hence in this study, the effects of synthesizing 77% wt. of Ni, 16% wt. of Fe, 5% wt. of Copper (Cu) and 2% wt. of Chromium (Cr) through mechanical alloying are analyzed for the structural and magnetic properties of this nanoparticle. Within the range of 0 h to 96 h of milling time, this sample was found to form the FCC γ-(Ni, Fe, Cu and Cr) phase after 6 h. As milling time was increased, the lattice parameter (a) increased and crystallite size (D) decreased. Also, the saturation magnetization, Ms was found to increase while Hc decreased with prolonged milling exhibiting the ideal characteristic of soft magnetic nanostructured particle. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) were used for this study.
