Set in contemporary Singapore, these stories focus on interpersonal relationships, particularly familial tensions that arise in everyday life, while exploring the themes of time and memory. In the accompanying exegesis, I put my creative process in conversation with short story theories curated by Charles E. May; close-readings of short stories by Tobias Wolff, Ann Beattie, Dave Chua, Eileen Chang and more; along with narratological approaches and other cross-disciplinary studies. |
