林晨是新加坡华语剧坛的先驱。他以不懈的努力与丰富的人生经验，身兼导演与剧作家，为新加坡剧坛付出了无可取代的重大贡献。林晨也曾在五十至七十年代间创作过九部独幕剧和三部多幕剧，笔下所刻画的人物都具有自身鲜明的性格特色，其中也反映了庶民群众与恶势力的对抗。对此，本文将分析林晨笔下人物会话中庶民群像的建构，并对剧作中庶民的尊严斗争做出深入的探讨。 关键词：林晨 新加坡华语剧坛 庶民群像 尊严斗争 Lin Chen was a pioneer in Singapore Chinese Theatre. He was an active director and play writer who enhanced local mandarin theatre with the belief of ‘Serving people’. In his ideology, he strongly believed that the quality of the stage was made up of good script and characters that developed from real-life experiences. For him, drama theatre was an effective way to educate people and reflect the true image of the society. Lin Chen had written down nine one-act plays and three plays of various contents. Among these plays, the subaltern image was one of the biggest features. The characterization of subalterns was vividly shaped and reflected the contemporary social realities. Hence, this thesis would focus on the characterization of subalterns in Lin Chen’s plays from the early 50s to 70s. Apart from the subaltern image, this thesis would also explore the psychological demands and dignity combat of the subalterns under different decades and social contexts.
