Dayo Wang's stand-up comedy, Hong Konger's identity and Hongkong-China relations

Description
As a forefather of stand-up comedy in Hong Kong, Dayo Wang catapulted to fame after his first stand-up comedy in 1990. His subsequent shows further captured the hearts of many Hong Kong citizens. Through the use of satirical language, his shows ingeniously expressed Hong Kong’s political, social and economical issues, as well as the relationship between China and Hong Kong, which trigger audiences to ponder over them. Before the hand-over of Hong Kong to China, Wang’s works, What’s next? and Settlement before autumn bewailed the uneasiness and fear felt by the Hong Kong citizens towards the hand-over. These political satire then eventually became an astonishing prophecy that came true. Though Wong’s stand-up comedy steered away from China-Hong Kong’s relationship after the hand-over, traces of such topic is still evident in his work titled Not Crazy Not Normal , published in 2014, and Jin Pen Lang Kou published in 2018.
