Description
Summary:Roommate conflicts have occurred over many years. Random assignment of students to residence hall rooms would lead to the pairing of incompatible students. However, little has been done to mitigate this issue. As of 2020, Nanyang Technological University has a total of 12,000 students living in 24 different halls. With such many students living in hall, it is important to determine the factors of roommate difficulties and solve the rising concern by creating a mobile application, DormChum. DormChum would propose a list of potential matches to students generated by an algorithm based on personality test scores, course, and interests of the user. Other features include a chat system, sharing reminder with a roommate and view and respond to upcoming hall activities. At the end of the development, user study was conducted to find out user’s acceptance level to the application.
