Description
Summary:Being able to understand the habits of our daily lives and compiling it into easily understandable and usable data is an important factor in being able to improve efficiency in our lives. The dawn of IoT has allowed us to integrate various aspects in our daily routine to increase the convenience of our lives by connecting seemingly independent variables to form a smooth system that fits to our needs and supports us. LoRa is a technology that enables these IoT agents to seamlessly interact with one another over larger distances as well as provides a solution to various issues such as power consumption and space requirements to integrate such IoT technologies into our lives. One key aspect of our daily lives is the usage of water throughout the day. Being able to understand the amount we use on each day at specific times can allow us to have a greater consciousness during our usage and allow us to be more conservative and reduce unnecessary wastage. This can also positively impact our society on a larger scale by enabling agencies to understand this data and provide a much more efficient method of providing to our needs. The current method of obtaining these readings consists of manually locating and discerning the readings on the water meter that is located outside each home unit. This is a very tedious process that also requires a prior understanding of the readings to fully understand. This report will propose an integrated LoRa water flow sensor solution to provide easily accessible information regarding the usage of water. This will provide a more convenient approach for residents to track and manage their water usage, as well as for agencies to be able to collect information regarding customer water usage for further analysis. The technologies used, as well as the reasoning behind each choice, along with the design considerations during the development, will be discussed in this report.
