One major focus of that, is the development of web applications or services for the masses. In today’s climate, web applications are in demand as the drive and the advancement of technology are very prominent. This advancement allows any web applications to be easily access by anyone, in any part of the world, due to the availability of smart devices everywhere. By opening any web browser that are available in laptops, tablets and smartphones, a developed web application can be easily utilized and maintained anywhere, depending on the type of users (normal users or admin users). It is also very convenient, without the users having to install any software to their preferred machines. Some examples of web applications are Office365, Adobe Creative Cloud, email services, and many more. For this final year project, a web application with the sole function of reporting any lost and found items on NTU campus has been designed and implemented. The ability to match those reports and allow students to find their items quickly for themselves is the major drive for this project. This will alleviate the need of maintaining a paper report and ease the university lost and found service department workload. The responsibility now has shifted to the students and the university will be able to save man hours replying to enquiries. The web application is an online portal which was developed by web programming languages connected to a database. It was developed based on the client-server model architecture and is very user friendly. Like any other web applications, it will include a login and authentication process before users can report any lost or found items. Registration will be required if a user does not have an account. Due to security measures, users can only report and search for missing and found items, but their listings cannot be deleted once submitted. Only administrators will have the right to do so.
