Summary: | Donations in-kind are important if the contributions are centralised with the organisations’ mission such as providing groceries to less income households. In addition, these donations should be in usable condition in order to benefit the recipient.
However, charities and non-profit organisations have experienced challenges when it comes to receiving in-kind donations, mainly due to the influx of broken and unusable goods. This puts a strain on the organisations and their volunteers as they have to spend time sorting the items out.
Mobile applications have become increasingly popular in solving our day to day tasks, this is due to its convenience and simplicity. Therefore, this project aims to develop a mobile application that can help reduce the challenges mentioned above.
The mobile app developed provides a way for organisations to request for items that they need. The main feature of the app is to connect these organisations with donors who would like to contribute to their requests. Furthermore, donors are also able to post items that they would like to donate and interested organisations can reach out to them.
The mobile application was developed using the React Native framework. Its frontend was developed using JavaScript and its backend was handled by Google Firebase. This report will highlight the overall development process and final results of the app. |
