Summary: | Shape memory materials are materials that has the ability to return back to its original shape after deformation. This is achievable when the right stimulus is applied. An example of shape memory material is shape memory polymer (SMP). SMPs are readily available in the market and has a wide range of applications. This project deals with commercially bought styrene copolymer.
Surface patterning has been observed when SMPs are stretched near its glass transition temperature. An example of such patterns is the micro butterflyers features of sizes 6 to 90 μm which is formed on the surface of the SMP. The purpose of this project is to identify the formation of micro butterflyers at different temperatures.
Samples were stretched at chosen temperatures until selected strain. Stretched samples were then observed under the Keyence Laser Microscope to identify the formation of the micro butterflyers. |
