Description
Summary:This Final Year Project (FYP) report presents the work of Project Number B338. The Project Title is Standard Static Tensile, Compression and Torsion Tests. The purpose of this report is to give the reader an overview of this FYP. This project is a pioneer project and hence, it would be essential for the future generation whom would research on relevant areas. The report looks into the different areas of the development of this FYP. This report consists of six chapters which begin with an introduction to the FYP. It will touch on the background of FYP. Rationale, objectives and scope of this FYP are reflected too. The objectives of this FYP are to conduct standard static tensile test, conduct standard static compression test and compare the results with past researches. Moreover, there would also have recommendation for standard static torsion test. The second chapter of the report is the descriptions on American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International standards for tensile and compression tests. Important terms regarding tensile and compression tests are explained. It will also cover a brief description of the material, Aluminum alloy 6061-T6 (Al6061-T6) used in this project. The third chapter states the brief grinding and polishing procedure of Al6061-T6 before the chemical composition analysis can be done. Furthermore, standard static tensile and compression specimens dimensions are reflected. Chapter four describes the experimental setup and procedures. Universal Testing Machine, Instron 5569 is to be used for performing standard static tensile test, while Universal Testing Machine, Instron 5500 is to be used for performing standard static compression test. Results and discussions are mentioned in chapter five. There is a comparison of this project analysis with the past researches.
