Description
Summary:The world faces a global phenomenon of increasing concentration of its population in urban areas. People in many Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore live in high density, compact dwellings. This situation will continue to worsen and pose problems for future world living environments. This project aims to alleviate the lack of space faced by people in urban living by providing a solution to better organize living space. In this report, the project is presented from ideation to conceptualization in design and development. The design is backed up by research done in the study of trends, analysis of statistics and ergonomics. The original solution was primarily a cost-effective design, made affordable for the middle income group in urbanized countries. A further more sophisticated design was developed by making use of a hinging system. The final design solution of seating system is a versatile modular system which can be assembled to serve different needs of the user in their daily routine at home. Each unit can be transformed into three states – stool, low seating and a side desk, catering to dining, work and relaxation activities.
