Description
Summary:Due to the limited studies that focused on the teaching of Arabic language in Singapore, this research aims to report the results of the current state of Arabic language teachers in Singapore, and discusses the findings in the broad context of Arabic language teaching. The study will answer the following details: (i) teachers’ demographics, (ii) academic qualifications, (iii) years of experience, (iv) institutions or centres of learning (v) the profiles of their students, (vi) motivations for being an Arabic language teacher, (vii) teachers’ professional development, and (viii) challenges faced. The researcher employed teachers’ questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The sample included twenty teachers from the various educational institutions that represent the multiple Arabic language learning platforms in Singapore. To fully understand the Arabic language teaching landscape in Singapore, we must therefore appreciate the experiences, perspectives and challenges of the Arabic language teachers. The findings suggest several recommendations that may help overcome the challenges faced by Arabic language teachers in Singapore.
