However, there is a lack of empirical evidence on how the virtual and asynchronous nature of this new interview format can affect the interview outcome and candidate experience. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of AVI platform features on applicant reactions and interview performance. Specifically, the impact of (i) inclusion of organization introduction videos and (ii) the duration of responses allowed from a job applicant on the applicants’ reactions (perceived social presence, creepiness, perceived fairness, organizational attractiveness, and motivation to perform) and interview performance ratings were examined. Sixty-two Singapore university students participated in a 30-min AVI session, answered three structured interview questions, and responded to a questionnaire. Results presented that participants had higher motivation to perform when they were given a long duration to respond than a short duration. But the actual performance ratings of participants with varying degrees of motivation to perform were not statistically significantly different. Results also showed that participants who viewed organization introduction videos performed statistically significantly better by receiving higher ratings than those who did not watch the videos. This study highlights the importance of setting AVI features to achieve optimal performance and candidate experience for applicants, AVI platform providers, and hiring organizations.
