Description
Summary:Inspired by the sonification of geometry, this final year project seeks to explore and implement musical sounds where their parameters can be controlled to sound like different instruments. An application is developed using Unity to interactively replicate different timbres of instruments. Using the audio programming language ChucK, a software synthesizer is implemented which uses waveform oscillators, ADSR envelopes and reverb. In this report, a literature review is conducted on sonification works, physics and mathematical concepts behind sounds and the generation of sound waves in synthesizers. The design and implementation of the application are also documented. Some experiments are then conducted to test that the results are error-free and sustainable. Spectrum analysis was also conducted on the sounds produced. Lastly, the report concludes with a review of the objectives and recommendations for further research.
