If the car park is full, they have to wait for a lot to become available or leave to find another car park, wasting precious time and fuel. In the light of recent increases in fuel costs, this has become quite a pressing concern. Even though there exist today mobile applications available in the Singapore market that provide information on car parks and their lot availability, there are areas in which they could be improved upon, such as the functionality offered and the user experience flow. Therefore, the objective of the project is to develop a mobile application that seeks to improve on these areas by including features that would enhance the car park search process. For instance, allowing users to search by criteria such as parking cost, distance and number of lots available. Once a suitable car park has been found, the application will facilitate navigation to the selected car park as well. The application’s front-end is developed using the cross-platform mobile framework Flutter. The back-end consists of the Firebase Realtime Database in tandem with Firebase Cloud Functions for data collection.
