Summary: | Dementia is a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions, interfering with everyday activities. With dementia affecting mostly older adults, the most common type of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. It generally causes memory, attention, communication, reasoning, and judgement problems. It also affects their problem-solving skills. With these issues caused, families have been led to admitting older family members with dementia into nursing or care facilities to take care of dementia patients’ needs.
Neurodegenerative dementias like Alzheimer’s disease have no cure, and instead relies on medications to reduce symptoms. Other non-medication methods involve active engagement in activities, such as games or interaction. With these in mind, PEAR was designed to manage patients with both medication and active engagement activities.
PEAR is designed to have two platforms, a mobile version, and a web application. Mobile version is used by users who have access to facilities’ mobile devices, to directly input information for ease of convenience. The back-end web application will be used to directly manage data. Games are included since PEAR involves games, and activities for dementia patients.
The current purpose of PEAR system is to continue upgrading the framework from its’ old framework, while maintaining it’s system requirements and resolving old issues. Final aim of the project is to produce a secure, easy to use software with maintainability and good performance. |
