Such a system needs to be portable, reliable, and easy to use. As more people own a smartphone and become increasingly familiar with map navigation applications, such as Google Maps and Apple Maps, an indoor localisation system in the form of a mobile application will be suitable. In this project, a tour application system named SingTourX was developed, consisting of a frontend mobile application and a frontend web application with backend support from a hosted server. It is designed for tourists to locate and navigate around places of interest within a building. Other features of highlight include the ability for tourists to create their own tour routes, which can be shared with other users of the application and the collection of tourist activity data, which can be viewed by administrators on the web application. To support the localisation, a sensor fusion algorithm that makes use of Wi-Fi signal strengths around the building and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor readings within the smartphones is implemented. Testing performed on the system has proven the correctness of the features implemented. The success of such an application system will show that it can be further expanded to support taller, larger, and more densely populated buildings for different use cases.
