Just as global institutions will be influenced by the rise of Asia, countries in the Asia Pacific will have to adapt to the norms, values and practices of global society as well. Regional multilateral institutions will play a significant role in creating such a new international consensus, especially if both regional states as well as extra-regional powers with a global presence such as the United States are represented in those institutions.
