Description
Summary:The global energy crisis has become an issue that is looming over our heads. The need for greener energy alternatives has driven much research into carbon neutral energy sources such as solar, wind and tidal. However, amid changing our energy sources, the world needs to also explore how we use our energy. The most energy inefficient portion of the building envelope, the windows, has become a bottleneck for improving building energy efficiency. One of the basic methods for increasing window energy efficiency is to use chromogenic technology to control solar transmissions through the window. Long-wave infrared emissivity, which is related to radiative cooling and window warmth, is however rarely studied. The influence of front and back side emissivity on window energy efficiency in different climatic zones was carefully investigated in this study using EnergyPlusTM energy modelling software.
