Description
Summary:With an increasing popularity and demand of Prefabricated and Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), there is an incentive to improve the construction method, in terms of productivity on-site. As this construction method is relatively new, on-site structural health monitoring (SHM) of PPVC modules and its connections are also limited. The data collection and analysis of a wire-based monitoring system and remote monitoring system on-site in this study provides insights on the SHM of reinforced concrete PPVC system. Additionally, a smart wire design is tested to evaluate the feasibility and potential of embedding FBG sensors within PPVC wire loop connections. Tensile tests and modified pull out tests were conducted on the test specimens. The smart wire design aims to improve the installation process of SHM systems and provide better SHM of PPVC connections during the installation of modules. Another focus of the study is to target the alignment of PPVC modules using laser to improve productivity in terms of reduced time and manpower. The laser alignment tests will be covered in another report, CT-02AB-2. This final year project comprises of two reports, CT-02AB-1 and CT-02AB-2, with this report being CT-02AB-1.
