In a power system, the loads are always changing due to uncertain demands from consumers. There is a causality with regards to changing load demand and frequency. If the total generation power is more than the load demand, frequency will rise and vice versa. The fluctuation of frequency will cause the power system to experience instability. If the disparity of frequency is too huge, consumers will experience power outage which will bring many inconveniences in our modern world. More notably, a major source for power generation is fossil fuels. They are non-renewable energy sources. Using fossil fuels also have adverse effect on our climate as the combustion process releases greenhouse gases. This causes global warming. As pressure grows to reduce the carbon emissions that is warming up the planet, countries are progressively planning to phase out fossil fuels for generation of power. Renewable energy sources will play a pivotal role in this scenario. This project aims to study and design a load frequency control of a power system, with rechargeable batteries as a type of renewable energy sources integrated in the system. MATLAB will be used to simulate the load frequency control of power system and to study the dynamic performance of renewable energy sources. The simulated results received from the response of the system would be useful as it can used to determine the ideal values for both coefficients and parameters to improve the overall system performance.
