Description
Summary:Technology advancement in communications has bring great benefits to humans. From the development of wired telephone to the wireless mobile devices, information, news are easily accessible with the development of internet. Communications devices such as mobile phones, tablets can call, send messages, and download information at the ease of our hands with wireless networks. In military, network centric warfare is mostly associated with wireless networks. As military operations require wireless network connectivity for the flow of control and command of information from the central command post down to its deployed units, it requires the network to be secure, fast, and reliable. One of the wireless network architectures is MESH network. Mesh network (or meshnet) is a local network topology where all nodes such as switches, or infrastructure devices are connected directly, dynamically, and non-hierarchically to as many other nodes as possible and cooperate with each other efficiently. The lack of dependency of one node eliminates one point of failure as every node participate in the relay of information. This help the military solve its communications gap as it provides units to send and receive digital command, control data and digital orders no matter how rugged or remote the terrains are or how far they have travelled from the command post. This article reports the steps in building the MESH network and the challenges face along the way
