Summary: | Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) has been gaining popularity over the conventional Induction Machine over the years. In this report, different possible topologies for PMSM will be compared in the literature review. Selection of the general topologies will be based on the application of the machine, which is to have a rating of 2.0 MW PMSM for direct-drive wind power generation.
The design considerations will then be discussed. Factors such as the constraints and performance indicator will be shared in this segment. Based on these factor, further configuration topologies will be determined, such as the pole-slot combination and the winding layout.
Design process will then be presented in the report, and JMAG-Designer will be used as the simulation platform. This section includes the design decision, challenges, navigation around the constraints, and observations will be made. It also highlights the important factors to note when designing the machine in the simulation.
Subsequently, adjustment to the model will be made in attempt to improve the performance of the PMSM. Observations will be made based on the results, and a final machine will be design based on the past models to conclude the project. Possible future works to this project will be shared at the end of this report. |
