Description
Summary:Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based radionavigation system, and it provides its end-users with several services including navigation, real-time positioning, and timing services [1]. It was exclusively used by the United States (US) government before made available to US citizens [1]. GPS is ever-growing and everchanging. Some of the GPS major application include Locating, Tracking, Navigating and more. [2] Furthermore, improvements in technologies and data analytics allow GPS location to be more accurate and precise. With the development of IoT (Internet of Things) and the upcoming Long-Term Evolution (LTE)/5G services, there is a huge demand for using GPS for greater and precise navigation and positioning. Navigational applications include Google Maps and Waze provides navigational services to end-users to reach their destination. Nowadays, most mobile devices are equipped with GPS. As a result, there are more activities of GPS Spoofing attacks being executed on GPS services to masquerade the actual GPS signal to deceive service providers on their real time location. GPS Spoofing is an attack where actual GPS signals are interfered with and altered according to the attacker’s needs. A radio transmitter is used to carry out the process to deceive the GPS receiver. This cause hackers to launch cyberattacks for monetary or personal gains. GPS Anti-Spoofing is a technique to protect against GPS Spoofing attacks from digital devices that interferes with the GPS signals. There are a few methods and measures that could be done to prevent spoofing attacks. This project will provide us an understanding of GPS, GPS Spoofing and GPS Anti-Spoofing. Also, the project will allow us to understand how easy it is to simulate a spoof signal
