Summary: | Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is an emerging technology
and a hot research topic in wireless communications in past few years. It is able to
provide advantages, such as large coverage and high transmission speed, over current
3G technologies. Direct Position Determination (DPD) is a newly proposed location
method. It emerges to have advantages over traditional location methods “Angle of
Arrival” and “Time of Arrival” in respect of location accuracy, efficiency and ability to
determine more emitter sources.
This project aims to investigate the potential of DPD applications in locating WiMAX
signals. It focused on investigating the advanced Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM) technology in WiMAX physical layer and the applications of
DPD method on locating emitter sources. Firstly, OFDM signals and WiMAX
transmission system has been closely studied and a simple simulation model was set up
to simulate the whole system. After that, application and performance of DPD on
narrowband frequency emitter sources have been investigated. Both of these two aspects
provide basis for future work on DPD based WiMAX signal localization. |
