The new structure has the advantages of low fabrication cost, small size and low loss. Further studies on the structure attempts to make it into an electronically tunable phase shifter with the addition of ferroelectric material. With CST Microwave Studio various simulations are carried out to: • locate the position of the ferroelectric material • find suitable insulating layer between the ferroelectric material and the planar helix • design a structure that minimizes the reflection and maximizes the phase shift • Find the suitable DC ports to apply electric field across the ferroelectric material Simulation results include magnitude and phase of S-parameters. Results are analyzed to obtain the tunability of the design on the phase of the microwave transmitted.
