Summary: | Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of two or more nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located. It is self-organizing and adaptive; it does not require intervention of any centralized access point or existing infrastructure. In order for nodes to communicate with each other, a routing protocol is used to basically discover routes among the nodes inside the network. The design goal of ad hoc network routing protocol is to establish the routes quickly and correctly between sources and destinations. The protocol should provide loop-free as well as minimize overhead for data transmission so as to conserve available bandwidth and increase scalability.
The routing protocol which is used in the project is Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV). AODV routing protocol is increasingly more popular for mobile nodes in ad hoc network as it provides a quick adaptation to dynamic change due to mobility, low processing and memory overhead, low network utilization and loop-free protocol.
In this Final Year Project, AODV routing protocol has been analyzed by measuring four imperative metrics including packet delivery fraction, average delay, normalized routing load and normalized media access control (MAC) load under different scenarios which were performed using varying number of sources, mobility and network sizes. |
