This signalling system controls various aspects of the day-to-day operations like driving the trains, braking and controlling the doors of the trains when in station. This requires the train to be in constant communication with the wayside access points. With the proliferation of wireless devices, there is heightened risk of potential interference due to the large increase in wireless devices in the surrounding. By monitoring the spectrum occupancy of the tracks in real time, operators will be able to identify and troubleshoot potential points of interference faster. This would help prevent train breakdowns which can be very disruptive, especially in Singapore where daily train ridership exceeds 3 million. [1] This information will the be displayed on a webpage which will be updated in real time as train moves along the tracks via a train borne device. The signal spectrum will be captured, analysed and uploaded to an online database for real time access. From the website, train operators will be able to determine the points on the tracks likely to face signal interference and take appropriate mitigation measures to prevent incidents.
