The development of a global positioning system around the moon will be extremely beneficial in helping astronauts navigate the Moon. This FYP project will explore the feasibility of an architecture for providing a positioning system around the moon. Specifically the architecture needed for providing continuous GPS coverage around the clock using a constellation of CubeSats flying a chip scale atomic clock. This study will look at the antenna design and signal gain needed from Lunar orbit for an effective GPS system. This study will also look at the feasibility of receiving GPS signal from Earth orbit on the moon. It will also explore the signal strength and antenna gain needed for receiving existing GPS signals, aa well as utilising satellites on Lunar orbit as a relay for systems on the ground.
