Description
Summary:Singaporean Chinese have created a unique identity that differs from Chinese from other parts of Asia mainly due to the cultural influences from other races in Singapore. With globalization, it exposes us to even more cultures and influences. Today, Singaporean Chinese have been speaking and using less Mandarin at home, school, and in social settings while interests in other aspects of their culture are deteriorating. How will Singaporean Chinese culture evolve to be in the future?   Evolu化(hua) is a speculative project that shows a possible development of our local Chinese Culture. The project name is a combination of words ‘evolution’, ‘变化’, and ‘文化’, meaning change and culture respectively. The final deliverable is a magazine on Chinese Culture. It is believed to be from the future, where the use of language and content are designed based on my artistic interpretation of how Singapore Chinese culture will evolve to be.
