Summary: | The eVTOL industry for UAM has been gaining prevalence and attracting global attention. Hence, many new designs and iterations of eVTOL aircrafts are fabricated and tested through small scale prototypes. This report documents the use of mixed prototyping approach for aeromodelling – virtual, rapid, and physical. Virtual prototyping was demonstrated through the design ideation process of the DIY CNC foam cutter machine while the DIY CNC foam cutter machine promotes rapid and physical prototyping. Eight models were constructed over the course of this project and are listed according to the timeline: Prototype 1 250g, Prototype 1 1kg, Prototype 2 Version 1, Prototype 2 Version 2 and four Prototype 3 1kg model. The purpose of these-scaled aircraft models is critical as experimental data from the flight tests would be used for stability and performance analysis. They would be cross examined with the simulation results from the performance team to verify and optimise the aircraft parameters for better flight stability and performance. |
