Description
Summary:Light Expanded Clay Aggregate (Leca) was one of the lightweight aggregates that could be used to produce reasonably strong concrete. It was also good in reducing the total density of the concrete. However, in the mixing process, design ratios needed to be control at certain amount so that the fresh concrete behavior was favorable. Also, preliminary tests like density and aggregate’s water absorption rate were needed in order to achieve more accurate result. The strength of LWAC leca was found to be slightly lower as compared to normal concrete, however the weight reduction was considered to be significant. In the design of the concrete mixture, water cement ratio (w/c) was the most significant ratio in providing high strength in comparison with other design ratios. It is also the least significant ratio in reducing the weight of the concrete.
