It is inspired by Rock climbing, Chan-Buddhist ideas, and Chinese ink-wash painting. “Shan” – meaning mountain in Chinese, symbolises the main character becoming part of nature, a concept present in many Chinese paintings as well as encapsulates the experiences of rock climbers as they immerse themselves in the outdoors. This report documents the process and development of Shan, from the initial research and inspirations to the concept, visual development, and production.
