Khoomei is an art form that exists within nature, practised by Mongolians and Tuvans for generations. This music acts as a form of spiritual communication with nature, often sang during festivals as a form of praise or offerings. Unique as it may be, just as any traditional art form, Khoomei today experiences a gradual loss of the cultural emphasis and significance. This project aims to modernise Khoomei in relation to fit into the current environment and experiences that have been uprooted from nature, while preserving these cultural characteristics. By breaking down the purpose of Khoomei and the space in which the practice exists, we form new interpretations and perspective of what Khoomei can be. Coupled with simple visual expressions that will help rationalise and simplify the abstract nature of Khoomei. These meaningfully curated designs aim to bring the audience through a journey of musical dimensions of Khoomei.
